Was in Kolkata for the whole of November for a film shoot. It's a city with various facets to it. Its lanes and bylanes, colonial architecture, bazaars , the temples and also the Ganga that flows along the city. Nothing that I can write will fully describe the city, it is a city that needs to be experienced. Here are just a few photographs in no specific order. Incomplete , yet a sense of the city.
Himanshu ji.. the glimpses of Kolkata were interesting. I was there myself for a week in February this year. For all its romance and old world charm, I was deeply disappointed with this so called City of 'Joy'.. Hardly experienced any joy whatsoever.. But then I was on a business trip and Kolkata is surely NOT FOR BUSINESS! The work culture is abhorrently horrible..Bengalis may seem to be sweet tongued, cultural and intellectual and mild mannered.. but cab be most vicious, LAZY, scheming and dubious people. While I too love the 'old' world feel of the city, its low cost living - the cheap yellow taxis, the cheaper food, languid pace of life in general etc, but then this has to be the most BACKWARD Metro city anywhere in the world.. and that's a huge shame!
ReplyDeleteDear Anzy,
DeleteThanks for your comment. I know and understand what you are saying. I am not for romanticisation of a culture or people. Bengalis like people from anywhere else in the world could be cunning and devious. And yes , Kolkata may not be even close to Mumbai in its attitude towards business. So I agree with you largely. My romanticisation is of Kolkata of the past and that is what I was really looking for.
Warm Regards
HImanshu
